Mindfulness for Librarians (Three-part series)

Library staff experience stress in their roles under normal circumstances. In recent times those stressors can be even greater as we attempt to manage through a pandemic and, hopefully, a return to normal services in the near future. While every staff member and library may have unique challenges, all staff can benefit from applying mindfulness to their lives and work. Providing a basic understanding of mindfulness with a brief examination of its tenets in the context of library work, Richard and Lisa Moniz, both co-authors of the book The Mindful Librarian: Connecting the Practice of Mindfulness to Librarianship, will give participants an opportunity to consider how they might better take care of themselves and their patrons across a three part series that will benefit all library staff.

Goals for this series include:

  1. Understand common and current stressors affecting library staff.
  2. Define mindfulness and gain awareness of mindful practice.
  3. Apply mindfulness to library work in stressful circumstances.

There will be three separate sessions lasting approximately one hour each at 10 am on June 9, June 23, & June 30.

Registration is required and will be limited to 60 participants.
